This has been my first acquaintance with Sebald. I hadn't heard of him until a friend recommended this book. This book is not a happy read, but probably an important, rich and complex book. Sebald writes about a man who, as a small child, grows up in the Welsh family, only to find that he was one of the Kinder Transport in summer of 1939 and his name was really Jacques Austerlitz. He spends the rest of the book--his life--to find out who he really is.
The book is beautifully produced and illustrated with a collection of black and white photographs.
Lili.
